Health and Safety Policy for Storage Knightsbridge
Storage Knightsbridge is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our employees, customers, visitors, contractors and the wider public. This policy sets out the principles and arrangements we follow to manage health and safety in all storage and removal activities, including packing, handling, transport, loading and unloading.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
Our key objectives are to prevent injury, ill health and property damage arising from our work. We aim to continuously improve our health and safety performance by identifying risks, taking proportionate control measures, monitoring our operations and learning from experience. Health and safety responsibilities are integrated into the way we plan and deliver removal and storage services.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Storage Knightsbridge has overall responsibility for health and safety. Management will provide clear direction, adequate resources and competent supervision to ensure that safe systems of work are developed, implemented and reviewed. Managers are responsible for ensuring that risk assessments are completed, that control measures are communicated and enforced, and that employees understand their duties.
Management will regularly review this policy to ensure it remains suitable and effective in light of changes to our business activities, range of services and applicable health and safety requirements.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must follow safe working procedures, use provided equipment correctly, attend training, report hazards and cooperate with Storage Knightsbridge in meeting health and safety obligations.
Employees must not misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare, including personal protective equipment, manual handling aids, vehicles, fire safety systems and first aid facilities.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Storage Knightsbridge conducts risk assessments for key activities such as manual handling, packing, lifting, use of trolleys, vehicle movements, working in confined or restricted spaces, and handling fragile or heavy items. Findings from these assessments are used to develop safe systems of work and to select appropriate equipment.
Risk assessments are reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to methods of work, equipment used or the layout of storage areas and loading zones. Staff are informed of any changes to procedures and are expected to follow the most current guidance issued.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is central to our removal and storage operations. Storage Knightsbridge is committed to reducing the risk of injury by planning lifting tasks, using handling aids and team lifting where appropriate, and avoiding hazardous manual handling wherever reasonably practicable.
Employees receive training in safe lifting techniques, posture, load assessment and the correct use of equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, ramps and straps. Only trained and authorised personnel may operate specialised equipment or vehicles. All equipment is inspected regularly and removed from use if defective.
Vehicles, Driving and Transport Safety
Storage Knightsbridge operates vehicles for collection, delivery and removal services. Drivers must hold the appropriate licence, follow company driving standards and comply with road safety requirements. Vehicles are maintained on a planned schedule and subject to regular safety checks.
Loading and unloading operations are planned to minimise reversing, avoid overcrowding around vehicles, and ensure safe access and egress for staff and customers. Loads must be properly distributed, secured and checked before vehicles move off.
Premises, Storage Areas and Housekeeping
Our storage facilities and operational areas are maintained to promote safe working conditions. Walkways and fire exits are kept clear, lighting is adequate, and shelving or storage units are used within their specified load limits. Good housekeeping is essential: spills are cleaned promptly, waste is removed regularly and obstructions are avoided.
Where access to higher levels is required, suitable ladders or steps are provided and must be used in accordance with training and instructions. Customers are encouraged to follow staff guidance when moving items within the premises.
Hazardous Substances and Restricted Items
Storage Knightsbridge controls the acceptance, handling and storage of items that may present specific hazards, such as flammable, corrosive or otherwise dangerous substances. Certain items are not permitted in storage or transport. Staff and customers are informed of these restrictions and must comply with them.
Where substances are used in our operations, such as cleaning materials or fuels, they are assessed and controlled in line with safety data, with appropriate storage, labelling and handling procedures.
Training, Information and Supervision
All employees receive induction training that covers the main health and safety rules, emergency procedures, reporting requirements and specific risks linked to removal and storage tasks. Further role-specific training is provided where needed, for example in manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety and working in customers premises.
Information is communicated through briefings, written procedures and refresher sessions. Supervisors are responsible for monitoring work practices, addressing unsafe behaviour and supporting staff to work safely and efficiently.
Accidents, Incidents and Near Miss Reporting
Storage Knightsbridge encourages prompt reporting of all accidents, incidents and near misses, regardless of severity. This enables us to investigate causes, implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence. Records of incidents are maintained and reviewed to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Where appropriate, investigations may involve consultation with employees, contractors or customers who were present, and findings may be used to update risk assessments and work procedures.
Emergency Preparedness and First Aid
Emergency procedures are in place for fire, serious accidents and other foreseeable events. Staff are trained in evacuation routes, assembly points and the use of fire safety equipment where applicable. Fire drills and checks are conducted in line with internal schedules.
First aid kits are provided at appropriate locations, and appointed personnel are trained to offer basic first aid assistance until professional help is available, where required. All emergencies are recorded and reviewed.
Customer and Contractor Safety
Storage Knightsbridge recognises its duty to safeguard customers and contractors who may be affected by our activities. We provide clear guidance on safe access routes, restricted areas and any specific risks on site. When working in customers homes or business premises, our staff will act with care, maintain tidy work areas and communicate any hazards that arise during the work.
Contractors working on our behalf are expected to comply with this policy and with any additional safety requirements relevant to their tasks.
Policy Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, legal obligations or industry best practice. Storage Knightsbridge is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance and to fostering a culture where safety, quality and customer service are closely linked.
All members of Storage Knightsbridge are expected to support and implement this policy so that our storage and removal services are delivered safely, responsibly and with respect for everyone involved.
